Airport Line

Summary

Track: 7.30 km
Stations: 6 / 6 in use

Originally known as the New Southern Railway, this line links the international and domestic terminals of Sydney's Kingsford Smith airport to the city.

It is a new line extending from Central extending south the the airport and then to a new station on the Main South line at Wolli Creek. The construction costs were partly funded by private companies, and as a result the stations on this line are privately owned. After 30 years these will be transferred to the government. Apart from a small section near Central, this line is entirely underground.

In effect this line has become an extension of the East Hills line. Most East Hills services now run via the Airport Line.

An article on this line appeared in the July 2000 issue of Railway Digest.
